The conversion of a historic former Milwaukee school to veterans housing is to get $950,000 in city cash

The planned conversion of a historic former school on Milwaukee`s north side into housing for veterans would receive $950,000 of city financing under a new proposal.

The financing, endorsed Thursday by the city Redevelopment Authority, would help Gorman & Co. redevelop the former William McKinley School, 2001 W. Vliet St., into 35 affordable apartments.

Those apartments would be rented to veterans, including female veterans with children, said Ted Matkom, Gorman`s Wisconsin market president...

Ken Notes: I like the idea of developing housing strategies for veterans that I believe could be used for other groups like service and retail professionals...
