In Foxconn development, an opportunity for minorities and women in STEM fields

A Foxconn representative said recently that up to 80% of its future employees would be engineers and research and development scientists, a move that has some concerned about the future of the labor market in southeastern Wisconsin.

But to me, this news represents an opportunity.

Contrary to some conjecture out there, this shift away from hiring mostly assembly workers will not shut out underrepresented minorities. In fact, it represents an opportunity for the opposite to occur.
