Retailers look forward to back-to-school tax holiday

Retailers in southeast Wisconsin say they are looking forward to increased sales as the state’s first sales tax holiday approaches.

The state of Wisconsin typically charges a 5 percent tax on retailers’ sales. Most counties in the state, Milwaukee included, also impose a .5 percent sales tax. During the “back to school” holiday, which begins Wednesday and lasts for five days, purchases of certain items will be exempt from those taxes. Gov.
