Dane County Board approves funding to study third option for jail addition

At a Thursday meeting, the Dane County Board of Supervisors approved funding to study a third jail improvement option, which would include breaking up construction into multiple phases.

Dane County’s aging jail facilities on the sixth and seventh floors of the downtown Madison City-County Building need to be replaced, outside consultants and Sheriff Dave Mahoney have said. In December, a group of consultants — Mead & Hunt, Potter Lawson and Pulitzer/Bogard and Associates — submitted two jail remodeling plans as part of a 700-page report.
